Golden Grove Estate Nero d'Avola 2015

Christmas Eve 2014 caused chaos for a thin strip of vineyards when hail desicrated what looked to be a promising vintage til then. To supplement losses some fruit was sourced from outside the region - the first time Golden Grove Estate have done so. Sauvignon Blanc from South Australia made the trip as did Vermentino and Nero from Chalmers Heathcote vineyard.

Berry basket and black cherries underpin this wine. An uprising from the ashes of sorts, a super fine dusting of black pepper is preceded by a slash of fruit sweetness before that pepper tip toes across the palate with a dash of toast and suggestion of boot polish. You get a sense you are knee deep in this such is the generous delivery. Juicy tannins cap it off in style.

Drink now to five years.
